Feng shui (traditional Chinese: 風水; simplified Chinese: 风水; pinyin: fēng shuǐ; pronounced /ˈfəŋˌʃueɪ/ foong-shoy in Chinese Mandarin, "fheng-schway" in American English) is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to utilize the Laws of both heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive Qi. The original designation for the discipline is Kan Yu (traditional Chinese: 堪輿; simplified Chinese: 堪舆; pinyin: kānyú; literally: Tao of heaven and earth).

The words feng shui literally translate as "wind-water" in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zhangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty:

Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water.

Traditional Feng Shui practice always requires an extremely accurate Chinese compass, or Luo Pan, in order to determine the directions in finding any auspicious sector in a desired location.

Overcoming Feng Shui Financial Problems

Eliminate clutter from your life, your home, and specifically from these wealth areas. Clutter acts like a sponge and sucks up all of the positive energy in our lives. What is left is stale, sluggish energy that will restrict the flow of wealth in all areas of life, including money. Increase the positive energy by eliminating clutter so that you can find success and wealth.

Use wealth and prosperity symbols in your home decorating. Bamboo signifies luck in the Chinese culture and is appropriate in any room, who does not need or want a little more luck in their lives. Use whatever object you consider lucky as a decorative element for your wealth centers. For example, you could place a picture of your dream car where you could see it every day reminding you of where you want to be financially someday.

Don't keep broken items in your homes wealth areas, if you have anything in these areas that does not work, get them fixed immediately. These broken items could reflect negatively on your success. Rewire a light switch, fix a broken chair, change a light bulb, etc.

ow respect to your money and your financial affairs, do not take either lightly. Likewise, be generous with your time and money. The abundance that you show to others will be returned to you many times over.

Green and purple are good colors to use in the wealth centers of your home. The color purple is regal...the color of wealth. The color green represents growth and life. There are also a variety of crystals you could use in the prosperity areas of your home, and a display of fresh fruit in a bowl to signify abundance in life could be used.

The principles and application of Feng Shui can positively impact many areas of our lives, including overcoming Feng Shui financial problems. Many believe that this is just some style of decorating, when in fact it is so much more. Finding balance and positive energy are central to the teachings, and these are things that will bring you more success, wealth, and happiness if you apply them to your life and home.
