Feng shui (traditional Chinese: 風水; simplified Chinese: 风水; pinyin: fēng shuǐ; pronounced /ˈfəŋˌʃueɪ/ foong-shoy in Chinese Mandarin, "fheng-schway" in American English) is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to utilize the Laws of both heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive Qi. The original designation for the discipline is Kan Yu (traditional Chinese: 堪輿; simplified Chinese: 堪舆; pinyin: kānyú; literally: Tao of heaven and earth).

The words feng shui literally translate as "wind-water" in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zhangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty:

Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water.

Traditional Feng Shui practice always requires an extremely accurate Chinese compass, or Luo Pan, in order to determine the directions in finding any auspicious sector in a desired location.

How Classical Feng Shui Can Strengthen Your Cash Flow

In this weak economy, it simply takes longer to close deals. In fact, I'm hearing from more and more business people who are frustrated that even customers who are still in a strong financial position seem to be in a holding mode - waiting to see what happens before they make any decisions. Clearly, keeping cash flow strong is a huge concern. Fortunately, as my clients will attest, Classical Feng Shui can give you an extra edge in attracting and landing new business - and even new careers.

As always, I must emphasize that harnessing authentic Feng Shui to stimulate cash flow requires calculations based on your unique horoscope, the layout of your home or office, and the monthly energetic shifts in the environment. That said, I'd like to share with you five general tips that can help you quickly improve your cash flow situation.

1. Consider placing a moving water fountain in the southeast sector of your home. This year a "prosperous" planetary influence is visiting the southeast. A fountain with clean water that runs continuously can activate the unseen energies which have the potential to bring about "money luck". Do keep in mind, however, that this is a general tip. For example, with my own clients, depending on their specific horoscope and what area of the home or office occupies the southeast sector, I may not recommend water or I may recommend combining water with additional recommendations to further strengthen the pull of positive money energy.

2. Be mindful of the colors in your home office, workplace and home. Just recently, I was in a small business and just from observing the energetic make-up of the interior - particularly the vibration of colors -- I could tell at once that this business was experiencing cash flow problems. (And this was a business that should have been thriving despite the current economic situation!) Now, there are no "bad" colors. The problem comes when certain colors combine with other unseen energies. A color that offers a calm, peaceful vibration in the bedroom, can be disastrous in a home office. Blue, for example, is one of the colors that should be used cautiously. While blue alone will not spell disaster, it can often combine with other energies to eventually depress your cash flow.

3. Clean out the old to make way for the new. Clutter weighs down the energies around you. Clutter is anything in your environment that is in disrepair or that you no longer like or use. It's anything that is unfinished, in disorder, messy or stacked up. You have to physically create "space" in order to attract "things" into your life. Pay special attention to your desk: Clear away objects that sabotage energy flow. Clutter isn't just messy; it's a magnet for attracting negative energy. If your desk and floor are scattered with unfinished projects, papers, files and mail, energy can't flow freely. Trapped energy either goes stagnant or builds up into a force that can make you feel jittery, overwhelmed, irritable, fatigued or depressed. In such an environment, you'll find it's hard to concentrate and complete tasks. Clean out your file drawers. It's a basic principle of physics that nature abhors a vacuum - so clear your space and fresh, new things will flow into your life. If your business is slow right now, try decluttering and see if new clients don't quickly appear!

4. Get rid of clients. In this weak economy, who can afford to get rid of clients, right? Wrong! Holding onto clients who don't value you or who give you a hard time about payments can depress the energetic make-up of your business environment. Get rid of clients who no longer serve you and - as in #3 above - you create room for fresh, new clients to come into your life.

5. Expect wealth. Today's headlines can be scary. But don't allow yourself to fall into a pattern of fear. This vibration will not only attract more fear to you, it will activate the negative energies that may already exist in your home or office environment. Even in this tough economy, I have clients who are pulling in money, raises and abundance because that is the kind of energy they are attracting. So, for robust cash flow, combine powerful "wealth thoughts" with exterior projections of those thoughts: keep your front entrance vibrant and fresh, keep your office or retail space shining, and do everything you can to get your environment ready to welcome a steady flow of wealth and good fortune!
