Feng shui (traditional Chinese: 風水; simplified Chinese: 风水; pinyin: fēng shuǐ; pronounced /ˈfəŋˌʃueɪ/ foong-shoy in Chinese Mandarin, "fheng-schway" in American English) is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to utilize the Laws of both heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive Qi. The original designation for the discipline is Kan Yu (traditional Chinese: 堪輿; simplified Chinese: 堪舆; pinyin: kānyú; literally: Tao of heaven and earth).

The words feng shui literally translate as "wind-water" in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zhangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty:

Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water.

Traditional Feng Shui practice always requires an extremely accurate Chinese compass, or Luo Pan, in order to determine the directions in finding any auspicious sector in a desired location.

How to Apply Feng Shui Rules

Feng Shui never gets lost even in the western world. It has been the principle behind the success and prosperity of many people. They are used not only by the Chinese but also by other nationalities in making their dream house or building their establishments. Feng shui rules are widely used in decorating homes, arranging furniture, and in different aspects of life as well.

Feng shui is basically the concept of placing or making use of space in order to attract or maintain the positive flow of energy inside it. this so-called invisible energy is known as 'chi' and according to the Chinese, this energy can affect our daily lives at subconscious levels. There is a natural order of things and keeping this flow of positive energy could bring luck and prosperity in people's lives. Like for example, having a mini fountain in your garden with coins in it could attract more wealth and bring more luck in terms of business opportunities and work. Moreover, feng shui rules can be applied in homes, buildings and rooms.

Feng shui is similar to the Law of Attraction. It has almost the same concept but unlike Feng shui, it is principally done by repeating mantras. In feng shui, you will be setting up an environment wherein the flow of chi is constant. Have you noticed entering a house or a room that gives you a certain atmosphere that is really comfortable and relaxing? Well, this may be due to the feng shui that is integrated in it. it has worked for many centuries already and it is still a belief that is continuously gaining popularity.

If you want thinking of buying a new house, think first. did it follow the principles of feng shui? Does it have a nice ambiance? If not, then you can hire a feng shui expert to help you renovate or rearrange the furniture and rooms as well. The interiors and decorations may not be suited also so be sure to check on them. If you know that the place you are living in is feng shui-oriented, then you will feel sager and more comfortable. You will be able to live healthy and have a peaceful life as well. After all, you deserve it.

Be aware of how the windows and doors should be properly situated. According to feng shui experts, the bed should not be facing any window or any door. The couches and chairs should not be facing any door also. You can place the bed in such a way that the headboard is leaning against the wall. Feng shui also deals a lot with colors and shapes. If you want a harmonious living space, see to it that the colors match and that the interiors go with with the furniture.
