Feng shui (traditional Chinese: 風水; simplified Chinese: 风水; pinyin: fēng shuǐ; pronounced /ˈfəŋˌʃueɪ/ foong-shoy in Chinese Mandarin, "fheng-schway" in American English) is an ancient Chinese system of aesthetics believed to utilize the Laws of both heaven (astronomy) and Earth (geography) to help one improve life by receiving positive Qi. The original designation for the discipline is Kan Yu (traditional Chinese: 堪輿; simplified Chinese: 堪舆; pinyin: kānyú; literally: Tao of heaven and earth).

The words feng shui literally translate as "wind-water" in English. This is a cultural shorthand taken from the following passage of the Zhangshu (Book of Burial) by Guo Pu of the Jin Dynasty:

Qi rides the wind and scatters, but is retained when encountering water.

Traditional Feng Shui practice always requires an extremely accurate Chinese compass, or Luo Pan, in order to determine the directions in finding any auspicious sector in a desired location.

Feng Shui Artwork - Is it Right For You?

Feng shui artwork is a significant tool if you want to achieve balance in your home or office. You can make use of painting with landscapes or mountain scenery to provide support in your business and relationships. Water scenery or paintings depicting water activate wealth.

Here are a few feng shui artworks that you might want to hang on your home or office walls.

The Mandarin Ducks Painting

The mandarin ducks painting is associated with love and successful relationships. If hung in the southwest portion of your home or office, it can attract love and relationships.

The Ascending Steps

The painting with ascending steps is intended for career enhancement and good opportunities. This is especially applicable for career-oriented person who aims to reach the peak of his career. This is advisable to be hung on your office walls.

The Dragon of Ambition

Unlike any average dragon, the dragon of ambition will take on every opportunity that comes along the way. It is strong believer of excellence and thinks that no one is better than him. The painting depicts a dragon gripping the earth fiercely which is considered to be his treasure. It is said that once you have this painting of the dragon of ambition, nothing and no one can ever slow you down. This is for people who are naturally competitive.

The Earth

A painting of Earth is ideal for good health and knowledge. Hanging this painting on your health direction enhances luck. If being placed in the knowledge area of your house, it allows you to be a good achiever especially in the area of education.

The Arowana in Water

A painting of arowana fish in water is said to have brought people lots of wealth who place it in the wealth area of their house. The color of the fish should be in gold and silver to signify money.

There are many feng shui artworks that you can easily find and then include in your home or business. The descriptions of paintings I have mentioned above are just a few ones that are well known and have been enjoyed by many throughout the years.

Keep in mind at all times that you should only buy or use the painting if it makes you feel good. Having selected an object that you really don't even like, will not have the intended impact. Feng shui artwork should make you feel good whenever you look at it. So, go shopping and decide which one is right for you.

The Feng Shui Solution For Creating Downtime

Summer is almost here and so is patio living, picnicking and barbecuing. It's all about relaxation in the great outdoors so you can absorb some of that great fresh air and relax. All you need is outdoor space that provides enough peace and quiet to give you the opportunity to rest, read a book and step out of the fast lane.

Life changes for almost everyone when summer arrives. The tendency is to live and eat outdoors more. There are fewer scheduling conflicts because children are out of school. Shopping and running errands take less time because they can be done at times when fewer people are at the store so more time is gratefully spent on your patios, around your pools and in your sunrooms.

Summer graciously provides you more daylight hours so you can enjoy the slower pace of life that comes with the heat. In order to make sure you maximize the relaxation time you spend in your backyard with family and friends, or in a quiet corner by yourself, there are a few steps you can do to ensure that your patio area, lanai or backyard is filled with slowly meandering energy rather than zooming through - reminding you of all of the things you have left undone.

Unclutter to Unwind

Even in the backyard, or on the patio, clutter is still enemy No. 1. Clutter is just as much of a problem on the outside of your home as it is on the inside. Pick it up, clean it up, organize it and toss anything that is broken, no longer useable or you simply no longer love. It provides you more positive energy to have fewer things that you really love than too many things you have by default and are giving you negative energy.

Everything in your life provides you either positive or negative energy. The objective of Feng Shui is to surround yourself with as much positive energy as possible by eliminating the negatives that drags you down.

Create Relaxing Energy

FIRST: Surround yourself with the relaxing sounds of cool refreshing water. Even if you have a pool in your backyard, the sound of a waterfall is extremely peaceful, refreshing and cooling. You can use anything from a simple small tabletop self-contained waterfall to a large elaborate structured waterfall made of rocks surrounded with beautiful flowers and tropical plants where the water cascades down several drops dancing and singing over the rocks.

The size of the waterfall is not as important as the sound. If you have neither the budget nor the space, invest in a couple of waterfall or bubbling stream CDs or MP3 downloads and play them in a constant loop whenever you are in your relaxation zone. You can even play the sounds of the surf or waves breaking on the beach which is guaranteed to lull you to sleep on a lazy weekend.

Add to your peaceful setting the sound of wind chimes that tinkle and dance in the breeze. You can also add a bamboo wind chime to further the tropical island relaxing sounds.

SECOND: Invest in a couple of cool and very comfortable sets of clothing that you wear only on those days when you want to ignore the world and you really want the world to ignore you. By wearing this clothing only on the days you will be completely relaxing your body, you are programming your mind to immediately drop into a stress free relaxation mode when you put these clothes on. Your mind will associate the clothing with the warm weather, the soothing sounds of the water and self absorbing leisure.

Some days you may wish to relax but your brain has a mind of its own and wants to keep pulling you back to reality. In such situations, the clothing you have dedicated for wearing only at times of significant relaxation will help bridge the gap from reality to "downtime."

THIRD: Another great way to create a relaxing patio, lanai, pool or sunroom is the use of color. Most people are tempted to use really bright cheerful summery colors in such areas but for the most part those are all really high energy colors, not quiet restful peaceful ones. The best colors to use for a relaxing leisure area are the cool colors like blues, greens and teals. Think of the cool colors of a lake, a bubbling stream or the ocean and the wonderful array of lush greens, aqua and the wide variety of blues. These colors are calming as well as cooling on those hot lazy days of summer.

Purchase the majority of your patio furniture cushions in a range of these colors to maintain that cool relaxed feeling. Earth tones and natural colors are a very contemporary design in the marketplace today so if that is what you like then accessorize with the cool colors to reinforce the very reason you wish to spend time in your "downtime" zone - rest and relaxation.

It doesn't take a lot of work nor much money if you simply organize your thinking around the idea that your patio, lanai, pool area or sunroom are to be used for relaxing, getting rid of stress and "downtime," not to store stuff and clutter. After preparing it for rest and relaxation, all you need to do is plan ahead; as you replace cushions and accessories, think cool, comfortable and relaxing. Be sure to include beverage service and outdoor dinner ware when purchasing cool color accessories.

"Downtime" is important for all of us as we live in a world that is high pressure, stressful and invasive. Forget the television, replace the noise pollution with the relaxing sounds of a waterfall and kick back in a stress free environment right in your own backyard.

Feng Shui has a lot to do with the way you organize the items in your room in order to bring about wealth, prosperity and business or a relationship that is long lasting. Whenever you have a bedroom that is well balanced, then you will have a good attitude overall. Are you interested in having your bedroom done in feng shui? If so, then you have made a good decision. Pay close attention as we are going to give you some useful tips on how to apply feng shui in your bedroom.

First of all, as you are using this technique, it is important that you change no more than two areas a one given time. Why not change them all at once? Because, when you change them all at once, you are going to cause chi confusion and this is no good. If you would like to improve specific areas of your life, then pay attention to the paragraphs below.

Starting off, if you would like to improve romance or love in your life, then it would be a good idea for you to sleep with your head positioned to your 'Nien Yen.' What is the Nien Yen? This is just another term for romance direction. We honestly believe that this would be the best direction for you to sleep if you would like to enhance your love life a bit. Through feng shui, you will also be able to activate that marriage corner and improve your marriage. One of the most famous bedroom furnishing of feng shui is achieved by taking the red Chinese marriage mystical know and hanging it in the South-West corner of your room.

If you would like to give your marriage a quick boost, then you can do this by certain feng shui bedroom items. As an example, hanging a picture of peonies is a good idea. Peonies are the symbol for a happy love life.

Before we move forward to prosperity, we would like to tell you about area rugs. There are many rugs you can choose, which will help you out with achieving that feng shui style you have been looking for. Area rugs are known for brightening up any room, including a bed room and we believe each and every bedroom should have one. Now, let's continue forward with prosperity.

One of the famous things to place in your bedroom in order to achieve prosperity would be the phoenix figurine. Take note that the phoenix figurine is not only good for the bedroom, but it is good for an office, living room, dining room or anywhere else in your house. There are many feng shui bedroom furnishings that you will love. A great picture of plum blossoms or ornaments are also great when it comes to success and a good career. In the end, achieving the feng shui look is not going to be hard at all, as long as you know what you are doing and have a basic understanding of the style you are using.

Feng Shui Dragons

Dragons happen to be the time-honored and most traditional Chinese element of representation. Feng Shui dragons help people in using their symbolism to encourage balance and equilibrium in their lives and living space. The dragon representations are very common in China and can be found everywhere; these dragons are one of the major symbols belonging to the landscape and culture of the Chinese.

The dragons, according to the ancient Chinese traditions, are believed to have incredible power of controlling the natural aspects and the climatic conditions, which the human beings cannot dominate. Any natural activity like the wind, clouds or rain can easily be dominated and controlled by these dragons. This is one of the major aspects that have made these dragons immensely popular for people in the field of agricultural business.

Dragons also symbolize "yang", which is the masculine energy. This indeed is a very strong force carrying activity and creativity. A dragon symbolizes success in any field of achievement and prosperity as well and the effects can further be maximized by determining the position and placement of the Feng Shui dragon.

More to the point, the dragons also correspond to the east and as such the best suited place for positioning a dragon as a Feng Shui item would necessarily be the eastern corner of the home or the work place. By placing the dragon at the correct position you will be empowered with all the positive effects it has and would help you in earning success and prosperity.

Dragon is one of the most ancient symbols and it probably the most auspicious and powerful Feng Shui cure available today. Almost every Feng Shui remedy has innumerable functions to be performed, but these dragons are the most favorable ones. This product must not be placed in areas having lower energy levels, such as, the closets, the bathrooms or probably the garage. You need not have too many dragons in your home to increase its effects. Just one piece of this tem can help you in achieving what you want if placed in the proper direction.

These dragon enhancers are available in various designs and materials each having its only unique remedial qualities. The dragons symbolize abundance, Ambition, Fame and Life. Dragons can be availed from various Feng Shui stores, but make sure to learn all about the symbolic meanings of different Feng Shui products before bringing one for your home.

Pi Yao - Feng Shui Fortune Attractor

Feng Shui can be translated as "the way," and following a rich history for thousands of years, it has been a practice that has guided so many towards the path to good life, good fortune, and good health. Feng Shui originated from China, and in the modern setting, it has done wonders for improving the quality of life of its believers. Many modern homes today still follow the principles of Feng Shui to usher in the good balance of chi, the live giving energy.

Feng Shui remedies may also be deeply centered in the value of good business, good fortune, and profits. This is why you can see many businesses and entrepreneurs using enhancers. One of the most well-known cures for bad fortune and bad business is known as the Pi Yao. The Pi Yao, as many sources would say, is a fascinating creature because it does not resemble any of the other animals a lot of believers are familiar with. The Pi Yao is a one-horned creature with wings, resembling a hybrid between a dog and dragon, and is known to be very powerful in inviting good chi for fortune and money.

Why is the Pi Yao so strongly associated with money and fortune for the home or the business? Feng Shui experts explain that this celestial creature does not have an anus, so that everything that comes in will not come out. This principle is very important when the flow of money is taken under consideration. The Pi Yao figurine can be placed on the work desk or the counter in your business to protect it from harmful forces, and to invite good fortune. Speaking of good luck, there are some followers who put lottery tickets or raffle tickets under the Pi Yao statue.

But the Pi Yao does play a role beyond money matters. As one of many strong remedies, it is even more powerful when they are used in pairs. They then becomes the Pi Xi and the Tian Lu, which means the evil dispeller and the heavenly protector respectively. The paired Pi Yao appeases the gods and symbolizes authority. For businesses that are newly renovated, and for those who have just moved into a new home, place the paired Pi Yao near the doorway for protection.

ThePi Yao is only one of the hundreds of enhancers that you can use for your benefit and the benefit of your home. To be able to gain the maximum benefits from Feng Shui cures for your home or for your health, you can consult a practitioner or search online. What is great about surfing the net for Feng Shui products is that there is always a Feng Shui store that allows you to conveniently make orders online and have your items shipped to you.

Feng Shui Windchimes

Feng Shui cures have been around for centuries, and as traditional Chinese beliefs put it, these remedies have also been tried and tested for their effectiveness in improving many aspects of life. Even more importantly, Feng Shui has served as an essential guide for many modern homes and businesses, through the use of many enhancers. One such item that every home or office should have is what they call the wind chimes.

The disciplines that fall under Feng Shui are generally concerned about the flow of chi, which is the life energy, in every person or place. To be able to get good luck or good health, there must lie a perfect balance of the life forces that surround you and your home or work place. According to Feng Shui sources, if there is an imbalance of chi in the body, one can feel unwell or acquire diseases. In addition to that, if an imbalance of chi is present in the business, it may not be very profitable. Windchimes, like many other Feng Shui remedies, serve to enhance the flow of chi and harness it to your benefit.

Windchimes, as many people would initially see them, are attractive and hold aesthetic value as decorations in the home. Not only that, but wind chimes produce tones that are soothing and relaxing. Even after a long and tiring day at work, one will definitely feel more refreshed and calmed when the tinkling sounds of windchimes are heard. However, as Feng Shui products, wind chimes are beyond just beautiful home dcor or soothing music makers.

Windchimes help distribute the flow of chi into your home in an even or balanced fashion, because too little or too much chi in one area is generally not ideal. For instance, if a street begins or ends facing the front door of the house, there is too much strong chi coming in. Placing wind chimes will help soften the chi and allow it to enter the house gradually. Here is another example, if a portion of your home is lower than other parts, such as the patio or a deck, chi does not easily flow there. As Feng Shui cures, you can bring more chi into this part of your house by hanging windchimes outdoors.

Wind chimes are made from various materials, and you can select them based on how attractive they are, their size, and the quality of sound they produce. Some Feng Shui items can be made of metal, wood, ceramics, clay, and others. You may also do additional reading or consult a practitioner to find the most appropriate enhancers for your home.

You can find various items, charms, enhancers, and cures when you visit a Feng Shui store near you. Aside from checking out these stores, lots of products have been made available online, to give the added convenience of easy payments and fast deliveries.

The Roles of Tortoises in Feng Shui

Feng Shui has proven itself as an essential guide to life to its many believers and practitioners for hundreds of years. Originating from traditional Chinese customs, Feng Shui has brilliantly been adapted into the modern setting, helping millions of families gain good health, fortune, and luck. To date, you can find various products or enhancers that can be purchased to improve the flow of chi in the home.

As many Feng Shui experts would say, chi is vital in every aspect of life, as it is the life-giving energy. Chi flows in all living things, and it can be found everywhere. Traditional beliefs claim that whenever the flow of chi is disrupted or becomes unbalanced, people can get sick, and misfortune may befall them. What Feng Shui does is to enhance the flow of chi and keep it balanced.

For families that want to harness the strong and beneficial flow of chi, one of the most highly recommended Feng Shui remedies is the tortoise. As a reptilian species, the tortoise has held the fascination of so many people, in and out of the scientific community, because of its ability to live for more than a hundred years. In traditional Chinese medicine, the tortoise or turtle shell has been used as an ingredient in many healing treatments. In the same light, the tortoise is the perfect symbol of longevity, which is why various Feng Shui items are made in its shape, to help maintain good health for long life.

The tortoise is one of the four celestial animals upon which all practices of Feng Shui are based, along with the tiger, dragon, and the phoenix. The tortoise holds the position of north, as it also protects the north quadrant. It represents winter and its element is water. The tortoise holds a great significance in longevity, stability, support, and good health. The remedies associated with the tortoise are also aimed for protection and good fortune.

How and where the tortoise is placed can give many benefits for health and in the home. In the realm of business and careers, the tortoise is to be placed in the north corner of the living room, dining room, or office. This provides good fortune and stability. To be able to harness the good chi for long life and perfect health, the tortoise is positioned in the east sector of the house. In the bedroom, the tortoise can be placed in the south west portion to enhance the stability of love and the relationship. Having the Feng Shui tortoise in the bedroom also enhances sleep and avoids unpleasant dreams.

To learn more about how you can harness the power of enhancers like the tortoise for your home and your health, you can consult a practitioner, read books, or search online. You can find a Feng Shui store on the web as well, so you can purchase and have your products delivered to you.

Your Love Guide - Feng Shui Master Reveals 3 Ways to Increase Your Love Luck in the Bedroom

Mohan Deep is a charismatic world-renowned Feng Shui master and love guide from Mumbai. His immense following among the Asian communities has turned him into a cult figure, and the success stories of his clients have grown into legends. I've summarized his teachings in which he explains how to create a feng shui miracle in your love life by the way you arrange and use your bedroom.

3 ways to increase your love luck in the bedroom:

1. Balance the yin and yang in your bedroom

You spend a third of your life asleep, so the feng shui of your bedroom is vitally important. Yin energy is peaceful, and the bedroom used to be reserved for lovemaking and sleep. With living space at a premium, office equipment entered and added yang energy to the bedroom. The active yang energy should not dominate the peaceful yin energy. Balanced harmony between yin and yang is best.

2. Clear negative energy

If you are divorced or recovering from a break up, you can remove negative energy of frustration, depression, jealousy, anger and fear, etc. One way is to give away clothes you once wore as part of letting go of your past and it's lingering negativity. It is wise to remove all living plants from your bedroom because they emit carbon dioxide at night.

3. Add symbols of love and happiness and remove symbols that clash

Fire is the element that plays a vital role in your love life. Since water clashes with fire, then water or images of water do not have a place in your bedroom. That is why someone who has no interest in sex is called a wet blanket. Red candles are a good addition that sparks the fire of your desire. Laughing Buddha's smile cheers you up. Rubbing Buddha's big belly brings you luck. A Japanese double happiness symbol placed in the southwest will attract and enhance your happiness in the bedroom. Moon energy streaming in from a full moon balances yang energy of the sun and increases your luck in love.

Feng Shui Start Your Life Anew

Start fresh. Start anew. A new broom sweeps clean. So is with Feng Shui. Start fresh with Feng Shui.

It can be simply said that Feng Shui is all about energy itself and the focus of energy. Einstein said e equals mc squared. Feng Shui is not only about energy itself. Feng Shui and its concepts encompass the flow of vital energy, deficiencies and the lack of vital energies, the harmony and harmonization of the flow of energy as well as the cultivation of the power. Yet it can be said that it all comes down to proper balance.

When your life is standing still , or worse "stagnant" , you can bet that if you sit down and ponder the mysteries of it all - it is no or little mystery what so ever. You are what you are and you are not what you are not. Its all about cause and effects.

Yet the corollary of this stagnation or just standing still is that if you do something, if you change for the better so your life and the lives of those around you will also change for the more positive.

What are the basic steps to get out of the doldrums? It may well take concerted effort and efforts. Its all about momentum and consistency. Its not that you do it once or twice. It's that new habits come into play, those involving the power, channeling and harmonization of the powers of Feng Shui. Its not about one task, or one effort or push in the better or more correct direction or directions. It's about consistency. Doing these events on a regular and ongoing, daily basis.

True you may have baggage from the past that is impeding your recovery and growth. It can be said that everyone has their package from their past.

The point is that the past can well weigh you down and restrain your eventual growth. It's a drag. Yet by working forwards with a good attitude you can pick yourself up. Let the powers take hold. It's all cumulative or even synergistic. It often said that when the going gets tough the tough gets going. Yet what matters is the start. Once the ball starts rolling, it will gain speed, more and more speed and just race down the hill. That golf or bowling ball will gain more and more speed and momentum , just racing down the mountain of life - of your past life's and problems - ever gaining more speed and momentum along the way. What used to matter so much, will hardly count for much at all.

Start small. Let it grow and continue to grow. Like begets like.

If there can be said to be any number of concepts of Feng Shui that invoke passion and focus your path towards the more positive directions in your life they are:

Firstly do things symbolically, start every day new as if it is a brand new life, pick one certain corner of your home, cottage or office and begin new to refresh that one specific planned area or corner.

Lastly make it a sure point to welcome each and every opportunity as they come your way into your home and into your heart.

Feng Shui.

Using Feng Shui in the Children's Room

As you are redecorating your house, you should not forget about your children's room as well. More and more people are now using feng shui in order to decorate their room? For years and years, individuals have been rearranging furniture, removing clutter and painting their walls in hope to bring some change into their life by way of feng shui. For those of you that are not familiar with feng shui, it is pronounced "fung shway" and many believe that the way your home is arranged has an affect on how you feel as well as how successful you are in your life. When we think about it, feng shui is real. So, with that said, we believe you should take a closer look into redoing your children's room in feng shui.

When you employ this technique in your kid's room, you will be creating an overall atmosphere that is relaxed, well balanced, full of encouragement and don't forget about success. The bedroom of the child should be soothing and include a number of great sounds of nature, soft fabrics and don't forget about lighting.

For a child's room, you will be focusing on not only improving their room but improving their life as well. You should create one that will provide your child with a sense of coziness and safety. In order to create that feeling of security that every child is in need of, you should have the head of the bed sitting against the wall. Before the child enters into the room, you should make sure he or she is able to turn on the light so that they can see during the night hours.

When it comes to clutter, that is our worst nightmare. In fact, clutter is a part of any designer's worst nightmare. In the child's room, accumulated clutter is almost inevitable! However, you should try to keep it down low. With the right types of storage furniture such as toy boxes and storage bins, you can keep the clutter to a minimum. Having plenty of bins and storage containers to put the toys away is a good idea. Most children find it hard to fall asleep when they have a bunch of toys in front of them. Take note that when bedtime rolls around, there should not be too much stimulation. With that in mind, you may want to avoid colors that are exceedingly bright.

Another must in any child's room is an area rug. You now get several kinds of area rugs that are especially meant for children's rooms. These are typically plush and soft and meant to break a fall as well as to cuddle up on and scuffle around on. In keeping with the principles of feng shui you may want to look for area rugs that are too bright and stimulating for your child's room.

Whichever type of design you choose to buy, the main thing to think of when buying an area rug for a child's room is that it should require low maintenance and will not get ruined with the smallest spill.

Feng Shui Basics Create a Harmonious Home

Feng shui basics create a beautiful, balanced environment when decorating your home. These essentials are known to promote happiness, wealth, love, health, peace of mind, success and warmth. It is important that your items are placed correctly and the color of the walls, the shape of the items and the placement of accessories need attention.

The definition of feng shui is wind and water. It is an ancient Chinese system that combines the laws of heaven and earth to improve life by surrounding yourself with positive energy. In interior decorating, it refers to the use and placement of objects and materials to create a harmonious flow of life energy. As such, the design of each room should be based on the people who use it the most.

Feng shui gives us a number of tools. For example, the compass and the Ba-Gua, an octagonal grid identifying the five major elements of the belief. You can use an energy map to define your homes areas and connect to your life's well-being.

You can mingle balance and harmony by practicing the ancient art of feng shui. The five elements of wood, water, fire, metal and the earth comprise the feng shui basics. These elements balance energy, and turn your house into a home.

You should pay particular attention to the direction your rooms face within your home, as this is key in determining which of the five elements need to be addressed. The energy map or Ba-Gua, is derived from your feng shui basics and can tell you, for example, whether you should add clocks, crystals, water fountains, mirrors or a new color scheme.

Energy isn't the most important of all feng shui basics. There are two types -- Sheng Chui, or positive energy and Sha chi, or negative energy. You can attract positive energy if you create a bright, organized and airy environment. Bring in fresh flowers and plants, add appropriate accent lighting, use purifiers or open up windows.

Clutter is one of the enemies of positive energy and must be addressed if you want to cover your feng shui basics. The positive energy needs to flow through a house to create a healthy environment and un organized or messy areas attract negative energy. This can lead to feelings of depression and confusion.

The three important rooms in your house, bedroom, bathroom and kitchen are important areas when it comes to your feng shui basics. Toilet seats need to be kept down and doors close in bathrooms, whilst beds and other furniture need to be positioned correctly in your bedrooms. An open, bright design in the kitchen is an important practice to consider if creating a harmonious home.

A Chi'Qi Little Story About the Benefits of Feng Shui!

Recently I was driving across deepest Dartmoor in the pouring rain, when my co-pilot, Charlie, for the third time opened the broken passenger window, despite having been told twice to leave it shut. Seeing as he'd only opened it a crack, I thought I'd relax and stop worrying. Then came an almighty crash. We screamed thinking a Dartmoor boulder had flung itself into the car, taking out the window on its way. But no. My nagging about the dodgy window had been justified, as it had now vanished.

As always, these things happen in a blinding flash, and before I knew it I'd pulled into a little car park. We'd heard no shattering glass, so assumed the window had dropped into the door. We were right. Deep in my passenger door was my passenger window, which was obviously not going to keep my passenger dry all the way back to Totnes, nor protect me from the storms on my way back up to Glastonbury. After failing to find a screwdriver in my car, I thought my only option was to drive back to Totnes to get it fixed. It sounded wet... and expensive.

Then they appeared. Like two black swans out of the river Dart, except clad in rubber and carrying canoes.

Wow. Thank-you Spirit! Walking towards me (okay, they were walking towards their car but I was in front of their car so it looked like they were walking towards me) were two fabulously gorgeous young men. Me, always happy to play the damsel in distress, went skipping towards them. "Hello! You don't happen to have a screwdriver do you?" Of course they did. Not only did they have a screwdriver furrowed away in their rubber, but they happily spent the next 20 minutes in the pouring rain fixing my car window. It was quite something to behold. Charlie's Angels. Three lovely guys (yes, I've included Charlie, who, although being the reason we were stuck in the first place, is also lovely) valiantly taking apart, and then re-assembling, my car door.

So beneath the delightful appearances, what was really going on here? I was experiencing the rewards of having cultivated my energy body in certain ways. My life, through this situation, was reflecting back at me the presence of an energy within me; my helpful people qi.

In Feng Shui, helpful people qi, or chi, is one of the eight life energies flowing to us from the compass directions.

How much of it we have dictates how fortunate we are in meeting the right people, getting the support we need, or, in my case, being rescued (in style!) in the middle of Dartmoor in the pouring rain.

There was a time in my life when I didn't know these life energies existed, let alone realising I could actually do things to increase their flow in my life. That was five years ago. Since then, I've been steadily developing my energy awareness - experiencing first hand the magic that comes from living a life turned towards deepening ones perception of these life energies.

The changes this new awareness brought about in my life were so profound I went on to work with individuals, in their personal lives as well as their homes, helping them to become aware of these life energies.

Each of us has our share of troubles to deal with and talents to delight in, but more often than not the troubles dampen down the talents, and we find ourselves spending more energy fighting than we do flowing. The reasons for this are many, perhaps our financial situation keeps us stuck, or a difficult relationship demands our attention - but whatever the external cause, there's always something going on with our energy that we can fix. And once we turn our attention to healing ourselves (and our home environment) we find that the external stuff, often rather magically, sorts itself out.

Next time you get stuck, metaphorically (in your relationships or your career) or literally (when you're out and about) take a moment to reflect on what your life is showing you. Do you feel like you're fighting against things? Why not try sitting quietly whilst holding the problem lightly in your awareness, and see if you notice something that needs changing. There's always something - it just takes a quiet mind and a willingness to find out to work out what that thing is! Good luck, and if you get really stuck, you can always call me for some help!

Wall Decor With the Use of Feng Shui

Feng Shui helps you create a simple balanced living environment. Learning how to properly organize what surrounds you can improve your life and that is what Feng Shui is about. Decorating with Feng Shui principals involves the movement of energy at a balanced pace. This involves decorating with colors, scent and mirrors.

This practice believes that colors have a strong and individual effect on people. Different shades create different results on people's mental behavior. Here are some aspects of color that influence your mind. For good luck choose the color red. This would be the perfect color to use for your front doorway. Yellow and purple are considered auspicious and beneficial to one's moods. For freshness, peace and growth green is the color of choice.

Darker colors can either be relaxing or depressing while lighter shades seem to be uplifting. Decorative orange and brown symbolize health, relationships and knowledge. Colors that promote restorative sleep as well as sexual healing are colors of human skin. This is from very pale white to rich chocolate brown. After deciding on your color scheme you also should harmonize all decorative objects with warm earthy tones.

As well as being used as a decoration, mirrors in Feng Shui are used to attract, move or change the flow of energy. Mirrors can enlarge a space, deflect something, flatten a wall or make a wall disappear. The shapes of mirrors used in Feng Shui are typically round or octagon. Most importantly is that mirrors be whole and complete, not mirror tiles that cut the image into pieces. Mirrors are great placed by front doors and ideal to harmonize the energy in the home.

It is wise to avoid excessive wall lighting but choose full spectrum lighting instead. Candle wall sconces give off nutrients and one of the strongest manifestations of energy. Be sure to buy candles with no toxins. You should always place and keep your designs in a free flowing direction.

The essence of clocks in Feng Shui is the measuring of the passing of time. There are many good areas in the home to display clocks. The kitchen, living room or home office would be the best. It is almost a necessity to have a clock in ones bedroom. Have a battery operated clock verses an electric clock in order to protect your health. For a collection of clocks, display them in a large hallway along the walls to keep the energy flowing in the correct direction.

In this practice they also believe that many different paintings can enhance your surroundings with good health, knowledge, career, family, love, fame and wealth. To promote longevity and good health, hang pictures of deer, peaches, pine trees or bamboo in the east portion of your living room. To enhance the area of wisdom and knowledge, use the colors of yellow or beige. Mountains, crystals and dragon carp symbolize the ascent toward spiritual awareness. For the advancement of your career your home office should be located in the north part of your home. Hang paintings of open fields, flowers and fish.

The color white should be used for the strength of your family bond. Hang images that evoke confidence , courage and inspiration. Fanciful and imaginative images are also appropriate. For true love hang pieces of art that send out love vibrations. Some symbols that convey romance would be of mandarin ducks, love birds and dragons. Fame refers to self respect and inner light. Choose artifacts like snakes, horses or butterflies. They all represent new opportunities, diplomacy and endurance. To depict wealth look for art work that exhumes victory in the face of a competition. Fish is also a symbol of prosperity and endurance.

To truly decorate in this fashion you must compare each element represented by its color in relationship to each other. When you begin to apply the principles of Feng Shui to your home you will be amazed how a few simple changes of color, arrangement and placement can make your home calming and aesthetically pleasing.

Take Feng Shui With You When Traveling

Are you planning a trip to a hotel or resort in the near future? Are you hoping for a positive energy change of pace that is filled with rest, relaxation and enjoyable recreation. Or is part of you dreading sleeping in an unfamiliar room in a strange city and a strange bed?

There are a few simple Feng Shui principles you can apply to your travel plans so you can enjoy all of their amenities while being surrounded with your comfort zone energy from home.

Feng Shui Your Home First to Insure a Great Trip

A successful, enjoyable and relaxing trip begins at home. Make sure your travel plans allow for enough time to prepare your house for your return home. When you leave your home filled with clutter and chaos, it is an invitation for chaos and unclear thinking energy to travel with you causing difficulties with room reservations, travel connections and a myriad of minor nuisances.

Take care in advance to prepare your house at time of departure for a welcome return to all things comfortable, safe and secure. Give away or throw away all perishable foods and empty all trash containers so no negative energy, unwanted smells and germs circulate throughout your house while away. And, stock your pantry with frequently used non-perishables which provide the energy of abundance and prosperity at home and while traveling. This step will also make your return much easier to deal with as you can prepare a quick meal without the added hassle of going to the grocery store after a long tiring day of travel.

Make sure all beds are made and bedrooms are uncluttered to provide you calm stress-free sanctuary energy while traveling. The clutter free bedroom will also be a welcome place to rest your weary head upon your return.

To insure cooperative helpful hotel staff energy while away, energize the northwest helpful people area of your living room or family room with something silver. It can be a picture of supportive friends and family in a silver frame, a silver trophy or a round silver plate which will focus energy on making your trip go smoothly providing you with all the help you need or ask for along the way.

Preparing your home is a critical key in using positive energy to create calm stress free travel. Because you are so intimately connected with your home, the energy you leave behind will travel with you to your hotel or whatever your final destination. Be sure your home's energy is organized, calming and rejuvenating.

Feng Shui Tips for a Better Trip

Everyone wants to leave behind the stress and pressures of daily living. It is a welcomed change. The relaxation and rest of even a short stay at a resort helps the tired physical body and the mental fatigue recharge and re-energize. To help you create a calm refreshing sanctuary away from home try some of the following Feng Shui tips.

When checking into your room, make sure it is not near noisy stairwells, elevators and services areas or above the lounge where late night partying takes place. The energy in your space needs to be quiet and restful for maximum enjoyment.

Pack a mini Feng Shui energy bag with a few personal items from home such as a picture of your family and your pet, a spray bottle of rose water, some relaxing CDs and player or MP3 downloads, a night light plus a flashlight.

The flashlight will provide safety energy in case of a loss of power.

Spraying the rose water around your room and on the linens will remove any stagnant energy, unwanted energy from previous guests and unpleasant lingering odors.

Place the night light in the bathroom as a safety measure so you can easily see where you are going in the middle of the night yet not disturb others.

Play relaxing spa-like music or music for resting or meditating to provide you complete downtime energy.

Re-arrange the chairs and tables in your room to either provide you a beautiful view or a comfortable seating arrangement that allows for the maximum flow of energy throughout your room.

Set aside time for inspiration and meditate, write in your creative journal or read a book.

If the television in your room is in a cabinet, close the doors at bedtime to insure maximum rest. If the television is not in a cabinet, toss a scarf or towel over it at night to prevent its negative energy from disturbing your sleep.

Since optimum rest is one of the objectives of your travel plans, cover the alarm clock and telephone at bedtime to allow your mind to totally relax instead of thinking about what is left undone at home or work.

If your stay is for more than one night buy a bouquet of fresh flowers to bring good health and nurturing energy into your room.

The ultimate relaxation tool is to burn a lightly fragrance lavender candle in a safe container. It will set the mood for ultimate peace and quiet.

If traveling by car, remember that your car is an extension of your home and becomes your living room for the duration of the trip. Prepare for a relaxed safe trip by un-cluttering it first and then stock it with appropriate food and beverages plus sanitary, safety and medical supplies for the length of your drive. Follow the same procedure for the return home.

Traveling doesn't need to be stressful so you return more tired than before you left. If you take precautions you will insure not only a safe but an enjoyable and relaxing trip plus a joy filled return to your home.

Your home away from home in a hotel or resort must provide you the same positive energy benefits of your home in addition to all of the added rest and relaxation energy needed to regenerate and rejuvenate you. By leaving your home filled with peaceful calm energy and cupboards filled with abundance, all of that wonderful energy will travel with you. By applying some of these Feng Shui energizing tips you will return home refreshed and renewed.

Feng Shui - Yes, Even Your Closet

You may think that using Feng Shui in your closet is going overboard. But, just think about how often you use your closet. At least once a day and generally first thing every morning, you look in your closet and have to deal with what is going on in there.

Feng Shui is a 6,000 year old Chinese art that incorporates the use of space to bring good fortune to you while minimizing bad luck. There is a lot to be said about attitude, mood and oppressive thoughts. Feng Shui is a way to help you maintain good moods, feel organized and in control.

Just imagine you open your closet in the morning to find everything in disarray. You have to dig, untangle everything, search for matching clothes and ultimately get your day started in a foul mood. Once you do find what you want to wear, you will probably have to iron it because it has been squished between all of your other clothes. Well, this can make you late, flustered and eventually the stress can even take a toll on your health and the people around you. Feng Shui principals can be applied to many small areas of your life to help keep you focused and balanced throughout your day.

Feng Shui is a practice that aims to help people stay balanced with the environment. Artificial elements are not desired. You want as much natural light as possible. Air purifiers, skylights and plants help keep the indoor environment more like the outdoor environment.

For your closet, use natural woods instead of wire shelves and hangers. Bamboo is most preferred because it is a renewable natural resource that actually helps the earth and the air quality. Bamboo hangers are a great place to start. They are very strong, lightweight and beautiful.

Take everything out of your closet and make sure that it is very clean. You need to keep a couple of rules in mind when you are replacing items. You should only put in what you will use fairly often. The Feng Shui closet should be more about usefulness and less about storage. You will want only fifty percent of the closet space filled. The ancient Chinese believed that you could not have room in your life for others unless you physically made room in your home for them. This belief translates to leaving room wherever you can so that you always feel ready to accept others.

If you must store items in your closet, place them at the bottom or out of sight. Heavy or bulky items should not be kept over-head because they encourage an oppressive feeling of having emotional baggage in your life.

Most people would think that there was no way to create fifty percent space in their closet. You can quickly and easily do this by utilizing specialty hangers. Group your clothes together so that you mentally separate work, health and family. Use cascading hooks, skirt hangers and pants hangers to get outfits together and ready to wear. This frees up a lot of desirable empty space. Using wood hangers or bamboo hangers will help you keep clothing evenly spaced.

Keep these basic Feng Shui rules in mind and you can have a closet that is organized and in harmony with the rest of your home.

The Benefits of Practicing Feng Shui

You can find different people doing different things in different countries. Actually, it is the culture and traditions that determine the way of living for different people. It is because of this cultural diversity that people travel to other countries to learn more about special things.

The best thing about this cultural diversity is that you can find people using different ways to treat different diseases. This has really helped the mankind in a great way. For instance, there are some people who can not use antibiotics because of severe allergies. That's where herbal medications come into the picture to help those types of people.

Apart from curing diseases, there are lots of other ways that are used in different countries to help people live a successful life. Feng shui is one such way which is helping people to know about the way they should set their home to get maximum benefits.

Feng shui is an ancient Chinese practice that is used to get more positive energies or Qi. In this practice, it is believed that laws of astronomy and geography are used to make life easier. Actually, feng shui is said to have an effect on wealth, health and relationship. It is because of this reason that people always consult with a professional to find a solution for their problems with the help of feng shui.

Before moving towards the basic principles, it is essential to mention that there are lots of people who don't believe in this practice. They believe that it is just an eye wash and it does nothing to change the life of a person. However, the proponents believe that it can really work to change lives, but, you will have to get in touch with an experienced feng shui consultant. All this is to imply that if you actually want to see some results, then you will have to get in touch with right consultant.

Be Kind to Planet Earth - 9 Ways

Here are nine tips to help you be kinder to our Planet using feng shui.

1. Place paper towels in an inconvenient spot. Mine now live in a lower cabinet on the lowest shelf. This location makes me think twice, maybe three times before using a paper towel.

2. Have lots of cloth napkins, use paper napkins only for extra messy meals - or not at all. Cloth napkins have the dual purpose of making each meal feel more special while being kinder to Mama Earth.

3. Raise the thermostat one degree higher and keep a misting sprayer handy to feel cooler, instantly. When that temperature becomes quite comfortable, raise the thermostat another degree. This serves the dual purpose of lowering your electric bill, as well.

4. Spritz your sheets with your misting sprayer before you get in bed on warm nights. You'll be able to sleep comfortably at slightly higher temperatures.

5. Use decorative "night lights" in dim hallways, bathrooms, and closets. You'll be amazed how little light is necessary for basic "navigation" through your home.

6. Clothes dryers are #3 after Air Conditioning/Heater, and Refrigerators in energy consumption. "Line" dry your clothes and just fluff them in your dryer to soften them. By "line" dry I really mean hang them on hangers and let them air dry in doorways or in your closet. This is kind to Mother Earth, reduces your electric bill, and reduces noise pollution in your home!

7. Take your mail directly to the Recycle Bin and toss the dross before it even enters your home.

8. Designate several trash cans as "paper only" in your home. Personally, I have a tiny box in each bath sink cabinet for empty toilet paper rolls, my office trash is paper only, and another one in easy reach for going through the mail while being entertained by favorite TV shows.

9. Use a water purifier and re-fill your drinking water bottles and you'll save resources in lots of ways, not the least of which is lower grocery bills (you won't be buying water anymore.)

What the Garage Means in Feng Shui and How it Can Influence Your Life

Although often treated as though it has little impact on a family's life, in Feng Shui the garage can have an enormous influence in your life. From money and relationships, to health and well-being, the garage may influence in positive or negative ways. Even if the garage is detached from the house, it can still be instrumental in making a person or family feel welcome or feel disconnected.

Feng Shui is based on the principle that your space reflects your life. Since the garage is usually the first place you see when entering your home, its condition can significantly influence how you feel about your home in general and correspondingly about your life.

Here are some tips for enhancing the garage's impact in a positive way:

1. Remove clutter. The original intention for a garage was for storing a car or two. Instead it has become a dumping ground for things that don't seem to fit in the house, items that have no other place to be, and junk that should be thrown out.

2. Have adequate and appropriate storage. Items and boxes can certainly be stored in the garage but they should be accessible so you can find what you want without going through piles of stuff. Storing your things is efficient not to mention time-saving.

3. Don't forget about the floor. Sweeping out the garage from time-to-time is important to maintain a positive Feng Shui flow. If it's in poor condition, consider getting it repaired. Painting a garage floor makes it easier to maintain and don't rule out the possibility of installing indoor-outdoor carpeting in the garage.

4. Place something inspirational in the garage. If the garage is your first connection to your home, place something in there that will be an appropriate welcome. Painting the walls, hanging a poster or a mobile can all lift your spirits when you arrive home.

5. Make sure it all works. Fix light bulbs that burn out. Make sure all doors going in and out of the garage open easily, even secondary ones. Oil the tracks of the overhead door from time to time.

From a Feng Shui perspective, taking care of your garage is a statement about taking care of your space and therefore taking care of yourself. By making the garage the best that it can be, you may bring about some surprising changes that could enhance the quality of your life and make the best that you can be.
